Reunion Stuff...

Wow, things have changed! who knew in order to have a simple family get together  we need to set up a formal organization, get a tax ID number, talk with a CPA and become a tax exempt organization??????

Sorry big bro' but we are going to do this on our terms! So this is the latest info on the February reunion, but remember things may change a bit, but not much so make plans to come!

  • Saturday Feb16, 2013 at the Yambilee building in Opelousas
  • we plan on having an anticipated mass celebrated by one of our own, the Reverand Jason Vidrine.
  • bring your own ice chest
  • we will serve gumbo and or jambalaya     (volunteer chefs wanted)!!
  • bring your camera's and video cam corders! we want to record and preserve as many of the old stories as we can before it is too late!
  • we will have family information there ready to be shared
  • feel free to bring a folding/collaspible chair if you have special needs... those metal folding chairs are not the most comfortable I have ever experienced... but, they are provided!!!!
  • We plan on charging $15 at the door to cover the cost of the building & food.

I am checking into getting scanners/coppiers etc there to be available to save and share photo's and news article that people bring on that day.

Hey, if you have some old family photo's and are not exactly sure who the people are.... bring those with you , hopefully, there will be someone there who will remember!!

Feel free to email me:  creolecousins@gmail.com or upload some photo's to our facebook page  creole cousins, a family reunion, (just make sure you tag the people or identlify them)

This wont be perfect, but the idea is to enjoy each other's company, re-connect our family, share our history and introduce our children to some awesome people!

  1. Mardell, the reunion ideas sound great. I went visit my Paw Paw (Fontenot) and Maw Maw (Berzas) at the nursing home in Pine Prairie today. I asked Paw Paw about the Fontenot names like Belaire, Gabriel, Jaquo sp? and others. They told me several things and had company they would talk in French with. But the thing that got me was when they talked about the Fontenots coming to america. They thought it was a bunch of them and ... yes, they came from Nova Scotia. I didn't say anything because i love and respect my elders, but you see, many of our family people have the notion that we all came from Acadia or Nova Scotia, because Cajun is always said and everywhere and Cajun equals Acadian. So, a good family reunion with history included will be a good good thing. Origins of Vidrine, Fontenot, Soileau, ... And just plain fun too!

  2. Mardell- I applaud you for this awesome idea and for having the energy it takes to plan and execute it "on your terms" Sorry Big Bro! I love it! it's true that every day many encyclopedic memories of our culture and language pass on... and it is so important that we honor it before too much is lost....BRAVO MARDELL! I hope to see at the reunion!
